Ever since installing Windows 10 a few weeks ago I've had this problem. I can NOT use my Samsung BD-Writer Slim External (aka TSSTcorp BD-Writer Slim External SE-506BB (BDDVDW) ). When ever I click on the drive to read/open a disc I get the error 'Insert a disc'. This happens with almost all discs (CD, CDR, CDRW, DVD, DVDR, DVDRW) but not with BluRay discs. I can read the disc, but cannot play the movie (ie via VLC, Media Player, or PowerDVD)... VLC error is 'Your input can't be opened:VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///D:/'. Check the log for details. ' But no log can be found nor is there a note in the Windows Event Viewer. On the other hand, I can copy data from the BR disc.

System is using Windows current drivers and there are no unique drivers available. I already followed directions on other posts to uninstall the driver, to uninstall the device, to check the CD key in the registry, to add a diff key to the registry. Mr Fixit can't find anything wrong, Win 10 troubleshooting doesn't see a problem 'no issues here'. I've already booted into SAFE mode to uninstall the device ...all to no avail.

There is no new firmware and no answers I can find. Help!!! What's the next step? What can I do to fix the 'Insert disc' error??? Yes, the player/drive works...note that I can actually get data from a BluRay disc, but I can't play it.
